I already have a Janome machine (with a few more stitches than this one -- with "Quilt" and "Decor" in it's name, as best I remember) in my summer home. I didn't want to drag it with me to the place where we spend the winter, so I bought this Magnolia model for use here. I like Janome machines -- they are well-priced, the accessories don't cost an arm and a leg, and they run smoothly. The feet are easy to change, the threading pattern is simple and I don't have to fiddle with tension. This machine is very easy to use and does everything I want. I've tested the basic features since it arrived a few days ago -- I mostly plan to use it for quilting and free motion embroidery. It will also come in handy for turning up pants' hems and sewing quilt bindings. I also included in my order the free-motion embroidery foot (it incorporates a spring) and a bobbin case designed specifically for free-motion stitching, though I haven't tried them yet. I can say they work very well on my other machine. I also bought an evenfeed foot -- it really helps to sew long seams. Without it I end up with one side stretched longer than the other. I don't make clothes as they never fit me, but I would guess the machine would do a very good job on them --- it's my body that's the problem. I can't speak to the buttonhole feature because a bad experience in school fifty years ago led me to solemnly swear NEVER to do buttonholes, EVER again! You are on your own on this one! The needlethreader and threadcutter save a lot of frustration and both work well. If you are thinking of spending more to get more stitch choices, you might be surprised how little you use them. A friend with a higher-level Janome says she couldn't live without the alphabet feature. It's something I might like to have, but the machines that have it cost a lot more and I can't justify paying extra for something I'll rarely use. I added some other items to my order: extra bobbins, extra needles and a quilt guide. I didn't bother with a carrying case as I don't plan to carry the machine anywhere, but I will leave it covered to keep out the dust when I'm not using it. My last piece of advice is to NEVER EVER buy a machine that doesn't have the "needle-up needle-down" feature. This one has it. It's essential for turning corners, stopping part way, etc. I ordered the machine in the busy season before Christmas. It was safely delivered in the few days the company promised. Before I ordered, I sent a couple of questions by email and they were answered in just minutes. Altogether a very good experience. Good luck, whatever machine you finally choose! |

| It is the quietest machine I have ever owned (and I have owned quite a few in my 86 years). I just love sewing on it. I also own a Janome Emb. machine and I love that too. | |||

Have only had it since July 6, but so far....I love it. Goes over multiple layers and works smoothly on curves. Quiet as a mouse! WHy does anyone go to a "dealer" when it is so much easier and less expensive going on line? |

I am a rank novice at sewing. Took this machine out of the box, and after fumbling just a bit with the bobbin winder (figured out I had to tighten the tension screw), was up and sewing. I love the start/stop button and reverse button. I am disabled and cannot manage a foot pedal nearly as smoothly as I'd like. A few seams and I have a rhythm already set with my thumb operating the buttons while my other fingers hang on to the piece I'm sewing. I'd give it a "5" but I haven't tried all the features yet, so the rating is based on straight and zig-zag sewing. I'm going to love this machine! |
